I have decided to learn the Connacht Dialect and need some guidance in learning about it. What are the characteristics of this dialect?

Get copies of Learning Irish and of An Teanga Bheo: Gaeilge Chonamara

Its morphology is quite similar to that of the Standard (with some exceptions).
They pronounce all stressed a's as long vowels
In the prepositional pronouns in the "them" person, they add a -b (acab, leob...)
Agam, agad, againn become a'm, a'd, a'inn
o and ó are often pronounced ú besides n or m or mh
Final -(a)igh and -(a)idh are pronounced like an uh-sound most of the time

As far as I'm aware, there are some differences between the Irish of eastern (Cois Fharraige) and western Conamara (where the "Joyce Country" is).

aye, it's a good book but it only deals with phonetics and phonology, and it's only about Cois Fhairrge Irish, which isn't representative of all Connemara dialects (it has a few features, as dropping almost all h-sounds except word-initial ones, that other dialects don't have).
