My bet is that An Lon Dubh has discovered a tairseach ama (time portal) and is ag sciurdadh amach anonn ( slipping out to the other side) chun a néal a ligint (to grab forty winks) every now and again in the distant future :prof:

- either that or he is ag dul thar a fhulaingt (burning the candle at both ends). :panic:

It sure would be nice to actually hear this nasal vowel sound. Despite Mick's heroic effort to describe it to me, I can't really be sure how it sounds like until I get a chance to hear it. Maybe somebody on this forum could post the pronunciation of the two words amhras and abhras so that everyone could hear the difference – Bríd Mhór? Errigal? a person from Dún Chaoin? or maybe the enigmatic An tOllamh Ó Braoin?

I've updated the notes:
The Notes.

The story I'll do early tomorrow. I still haven't made the final changes to part 3, but tomorrow as well!

Notes and story fully updated. A typo from Cuid a dó fixed, Bríd's improved translation in Cuid a trí and a better
explanation of the use of dein in Cuid a trí (Thanks to David Webb over at the Cork Irish website).

The Notes.
The Story.

Thanks for everything, Lon Dubh! I'd never be able to read through this story without your notes.

I'm hoping to start working on part 4 to-morrow and I'll be sure to let you know if I spot any errors or typos in the notes.

"Má's bréidín ar siubhal agat."

Does that mean they were suspicious of the old woman, I wonder.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

I've explained the sentence do bhuail chuici an dorus isteach mórsheisear... a bit better and corrected a few typos.

I don't want to give spoilers! ;)

Here are a few things that I spotted for Part 4:

There are a some different spellings for áirneán (and the genitive) in the notes for parts 3 and 4.
On page 14: Solus Airneáin; Airneán; Lucht airneáin; Oíche arneáin
On page 15: … Oíche dá raibh sí ag árneán

More stuff for page 15:
D'fhág sé an gleann agus a raibh ann agam.
A more direct translation (for the benefit of us beginners): He left the glen and all that was in it to me.

3. … functions in the same way …

Tháinig amach as an loch an capall dob' áilne dár leogas mo shúil riamh air.
A more direct translation (for us poor beginners): Out of the lake came the most beautiful horse of all that I have ever laid my eyes on.

5. Oíche dá raibh sí ag árneán One night when she was working late

p. 16
Go breagh bog Easily and quietly

Sin a bhfuil agam.
:dog:
