I have this quote from the boondock saints film
"When I raise my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold in judgement, I will take vengance upon my enemies and I shall repay those who have hazed me. Oh Lord, raise me to thy right hand and count me among thy saints"

which has been translated as follows...
"Nuair a bheirim thuas mo chlaíomh lonrach agus nuair a ghearann mo lámh an breithiúnas gheobhaidh mé díoltas ar mo naimhde agus aisíocfaidh mé astu a chránn mé. A Thiarna, ardaigh mé go dti do lámh dheisagus cuir mé in áireamh na Naomh."

However,the original quote is incorrect,i.e the line should be "when i WHET my flashing sword"(as in to sharpen) not "when i RAISE my flashing sword"

Could anyone correct the translation for me please and also check that the rest of it is correct.Possibly going to end up as a tattoo.Thanks guys

Another correction to the English: "repay those who hate me."

The first sentence is from Deuteronomy 32:41. An Biobla Naofa translates it this way:

Ahh yes thanks for spotting that mick,i forgot to change the haze to hate bit aswell oops!.Im pleased you picked up on that.I think its because when its used in the film,people didnt quite get billy connollys accent (who speaks the quote at the beginning) and it sounds like haze when it should be hate and so it keeps being translated incorrectly.Nice one ,cheers.
So,any idea why the bible translation is different from the translation that i wrote? I think i will probably go with the bible translation because that is likely to be correct as its an official document lol.

Well, you can often say the same thing in different ways. And as far as I know, An Bíobla Naofa is translated directly from Hebrew. The version you have is translated from English (a translation of a translation).


dheisagus should be two separate words: dheis agus.

I would say ar do lámh dheis instead of "go dtí do lámh dheis." But wait to see what others have to say about that.

I'd write "ar do láimh dheis", because if you put the adjective in the dative, you should put the noun in the dative too
