Re number 38. That's one of the problems with this exercise. It isn't always clear what the intended meaning is. What it means is: The teacher gave out to him because of how little work he had done.

So tabhair (thug) with a certain preposition can mean 'to attack' (presumably verbally in this case, but that's another discussion!).

38. Thug an múinteoir faoi as a laghad ullmhúcháin a bhí déanta aige.
