Do you use 'láidir' when talking about the strength of tea? Tae lag agus tae láidir or something else entirely?

That is the usual way to hear it expressed in the Finn River Valley of Donegal. As an irrelevant side note, I left there today and it was a wonderful place and I heard that expression today. So you're right on target!

Grma! Now that's what I call up-to-date feedback! No day-old information being handed out around here.

We say that too.

Do you have the equalivant expression in English of - ?

Tá an tae chomh láidir nach bhfuil capall in ann cois a chuir ann.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

 We just call it 'tar' when it is that strong - yours is infinitely more interesting.

A Bhríd: Ní raibh a fhios agam d'abairt go direach faoin chapall. Deirtear i dTexas, "it's so strong you can stand a spoon up in it".

My friend's mother from Tipperary always said " That tea's so strong it wouldn't need a cup to stand"
