I read somewhere that the name Conrí means "wolf king" is that right? If not, is there something that does mean that? Or something similar? Any other names with "wolf" in them?

It's not a word I'm familiar with. It looks like someone jammed the genitive of "cú" (hound) and the word for "king" (rí) together. There is "conriocht": "werewolf"...perhaps that's what you were thinking of?

Thanks Redwolf....I'm not sure. I found it on it on a couple of Irish name sites....says it's old and yeah they do say it comes from cu + rí. I don't want werewolf though. I just need something with "wolf". Anything like wolf king...or just "king". I don't know... I would like something with wolf, but I need a name that's strong.

As far as names meaning "king" go, the first one that springs to mind is Rían.

Name sites are notorious for making up their own derivations based on dubious sources and guess work with dictionaries (in languages they don't know), as are new age Celtic sites.

There is a Tinni Mac Conrí in the list of Pre-Historic Kings of Ol nEchmacht here:

But he was preceded by a Conrac Cas and I suspect Conrí may just be the genitive of Conrac (suppositing in a language I don't really know. ).

Still, as Redwolf says, con is the genitive of cú "hound" and both do feature quite a lot in Old Irish names and legends.

Are you trying to find an existing name with that meaning? or do you want to make one up to have that meaning?

Are you after a person's given name? or a title meaning "Kings of the Wolves"?

Cú+ word= genitive of cú, seems to be fairly common- e.g. Conchobar/ Conchubur from Táin Bó Cuailgne

But in the same story- Cú + Culand = Cú Chulaind

So, I suppose Conrí- could work for hound king.

rí na bhfaol/ rí na mac tíre= King of the wolves.

Ilcruthach- shapeshifter

Sráidbhaile/Baile na nIlcruthach= Village/ Town of the Shapeshifters

If ilcruthach isn't capitalised:

Sráidbhaile/ baile na n-ilcruthach

If conchró can mean (dog)kennel, then I can see conrí being valid for hound king.

Yeah, I don't trust the things online-that's why I come to you guys to help me out

I am throwing some things around for ideas so I don't have a definite thing I'm looking for. Both I suppose, if it's possible. (Given name and a title (which I see has already been given))

Oh and it doesn't have to be an existing name, a made up one is just fine. I like the "King of the Wolves" but if I could have a couple more to work with it would really help.

I have a shape-shifter, who takes on the shape of a wolf (primarily, but he can shift into other animals) He is thought of like the Alpha of his people-so...I want him to have a strong name &/or title. Maybe that helps some thoughts stir? Sorry I can't be more specific.
