I don't know what board (Irish or Scottish Gaelic) would be the correct one, but here it goes.
When my parents got married they both changed their last name, after searching through many different languages, they settled on the name of Miannan, which they said they chose from a Gaelic book.
I've been trying for the past couple years to find a more precise definition of my name.
The definition they gave was that it meant 'longing or togetherness'

I have found 'mian' which, according to the dictionary means 'wish' or 'desire'

It's Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig) - miannan is the plural of miann which can mean a craving or desire as well as a longing or a wish for something.

There is actually an Irish surname derived from the same personal name:- Ó Mianán, 'grandson of Mianán' (mian 'goodwill'), anglicised '(O)Meenan'. - MacLysaght 'The Surnames of Ireland'.

And as for the irish surname, how common or normal or w/e is Mianán? Or is this not really a good question because theres not really any information?

"MEE-uh-nun" is a good approximation of the pronunciation in Scottish Gaelic, with the second and third syllables very brief, especially the middle one. "MEE-uh-nun" [or "MEE-uh-nawn"] would also be a good approximation of the pronunciation in Donegal (in the Northwest of Ireland). In the Southwest of Ireland, it might be pronounced something more like "mee-uh-NAWN", but that's probably just a theoretical issue, since MacLysaght says that the name is found almost exclusively in Donegal. That might also indicate that the Ó Mianán's are not too numerous, but I don't know of a source for verifying that.

For the wondering, my parents anglicized it and pronounce it Mee-an ('an' similar to 'and')- n**
err. And then the last syllable really depends on who is saying it and whether we are trying to be precise. We sometimes pronounce it as: "in" (inn), 'un' (under), or 'an.' Though we know that the correct pronunciation (Scottish Gaelic) would be as you said, 'MEE-uh-nun'
