What would it mean? It's in a number of placenames but logainm.ie doesn't know what it is

Very good. Would it be applicable to flat fields (in this case near a lake)? or would it have some other connotation?

If you treated the g as a c, you'd get 'créach' as an adjective ('soil-ful'), which as this is Leitrim we are taking about, I think it's more likely the lie of the land that was being referred to (hill or bowl-like surrounds then a swoop down to a flatter, plain-like area before the onset of the lake)

One things tho, is that the logainm site is very poor on etymology. Someone asked me to look up 'Tourlistrane' and it seems 'tour' is a 'bleaching place' for linens and from what I can see the place had the name 'Liostreán' attached, but no mention is made of this on the site. Pity

Indeed it is. The person told me that growing up, it was known as associated with flax and linen which lends support to one interpretation over another. Regardless, it would be nice for logainm to go into all this
