I am working on a piece to raise money for Pieta House and I am looking for the right Irish text to say 'Stay Strong' - this is not just physically, but also mentally - keep the head up would be a good phrase. It needs to be gender neutral as both women and men do this sport.

An expression I seem to hear quite often on TG4 is "Coinnigh do mhisneach" (literally "keep up your courage"). You'll hear it when someone is facing difficult odds. That might work well here.

There's also the literal "Fan láidir" ("Stay strong"), but I don't know if I've ever heard that one in real life.

I was using Fanacht Láidir but I really like Coinnigh do mhisneach, its better suited.

I like coinnigh do mhisneach! Great suggestion I was racking my brains for the best way to say it in Irish, láidir is too much like physical strength for me.

Good thing you asked, as you had the wrong form of the verb for "stay/remain." "Fanacht" is the verbal noun, and for something like this you want the imperative (which also happens to be the root form of the verb, which makes things handy!).

But yes..."coinnigh do mhisneach" really is more natural, and would be readily understood by any Irish speaker.
