Can anyone give me the translation from English to Gaelige for: Hope Faith Love Luck. Also, Ireland Forever. I have seen the latter two ways. I wanna get this right cause it's going on my skin. I got these of Google: Dóchais, creideamh, and grá. Several for luck: Ádh mór, ádh, cinniúint, & seans. The idea is to border around a Celtic 4 leaf clover. Go raibh maith agat

Faith is hard to translate. If you mean faith as in belief, then creideamh is the usual translation. If you mean something else (like trust, confidence etc.) then we'll have to come up with something else. Note the spelling “dóchas”. The one you have “dóchais” with an i, which means “of hope” so it's not correct.

Ádh mór means “good luck” or “lots of luck”. Cinniúnt is not a word I know anything about. Seans means “chance”. So I think ádh is the one you're looking for.

You often see Erin go bragh especially in an American context, but it's not correct. It's just an attempt to write the phrase in English.

Ah, the dative form can be used as the nominative form; that's good to know.

That's why we don't trust Google translator. I will await more replies and hopefully by July when I have the money for it. I really want to learn the language but, time and money isn't on my side. Finishing up a Bachelor's in criminal justice this summer. I want to devote as much time as I can and in hopes to make a visit.

Éirinn go brách is the way I learned it, and I never thought about why it's Éirinn and not Éire until I read this thread recently: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3037

hmm … Now that I think about it, all of the native speakers that I've ever met (all 2 of them – ha, ha) said Éirinn, not Éire for the nominative.

Every native speaker I've met uses Éirinn in the nominative. I don't think I've actually heard the word Éire from them, or read it in native speaker works.
