Tá aitheas orm a rá afach go bhfuil mo phairtnéar ag oimpear cluinne arís agus táim ag smoainamh faoi cúpla céad ainm. Níl a fhois agam má tá sé buaichail nó cailín fós agus is cuma liom faoi sin. Má tá sé/sí slántuil, beidh aitheas orm! Caithfidh mé a fhanacht go dtí meitheamh!
Ba mhaith liom an ainm bheith as Gaeilge. Is fear liom ainm seanda má tá siad ainm déas.

I hope my Irish was not too bad there. Point out any thing that is wrong, I don't mind. I am looking for ideas for names. The other half is a tough cookie to crack but I have the last say since she had the final word on our last child. I like old and obscure names best so all suggestions are welcome. Thanks for the help! Oh and could someone tell me what the plural is for 'ainm'?

I don't know where you live, but I would caution you to choose a name that won't be too hard for teachers, other parents, and children to pronounce or to spell.

The plural of "ainm" is "ainmneacha."

I like the name Sadhbh for a girl
and Fiachra or Anlón for a boy.

they were my choise's for my Daughter and my son. My partner wanted Gaelic names.
She didnt like them though and compromised by picked her first choices for both kids

Id be careful though what you pick, even in Ireland they may face a lot of trouble getting their names pronounced and might find people anglicize them to something you dont like.

A few Irish actors have made Irish names much more common place. Picking a random one completely out of the air - 'Saoirse'..... Saoirse Ronan's success/fame has presumably meant that many more Americans will spell that particularly appealing name (it is Irish for freedom) more manageable. Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson have presumably made those boys' names easily recognisable too.

I think cillian and Liam are already international to some degree , like Sean.

I know Cillian can be a boys name in Hungary. Not very common.
But there was some Saint Cillian out those parts once.

Fadas are going astray big time in this thread. Not sure if it's the beginning of a revolt, but in case it's just typos....... Leanbh nua (no fada), Seán (fada on a).
Fadas are usually pennyrat's specially, but he seems to have neglected his duties on this occasion. You just cannot get the staff!
