Is there any word for this concept? None of my usual dictionaries are coming up with anything.

It took me ages to find "máithreachas" for motherhood, but I can't find any similar constructions for the other sex!

My first thought was 'aithreachas', modelled on 'máithreachas', but I think I see how that might not work... :winkgrin:
'Máithreachas' = 'motherhood/maternity'. The basic meaning of 'maternity' = the state, character of being a mother. Similarly with 'paternity'. Although neither my Foc Póc nor 'focal.ie' give 'fatherhood', they both have 'paternity': atharthacht

I checked all of my Scottish Gaelic dictionaries, including the older ones which have a lot of references to Irish origins of words, and none of them had a specific word for "fatherhood" either, at least that I could find.
