I'm coming across lots of variations for Munster verbs, such as the verb Faigh.

I have one source here at home which has the Aimisr chaite as
Fuaireas
fuairis
fuair sé
fuiremair
fuaireabhair
fuaireadar
fuaireadh.
then i have this source http://www.nualeargais.ie/gnag/faigh.htm

and then this source http://corkirish.wordpress.com/verb-con ... /gheibhim/ which is different again and from which im getting my audio files.

I cant figure out which i should use. if i learn the cork Irish pronunciations will i be readily understood ?
i notice it gives a habitual present tense for faigh, which my first source combines with the normal present tense and the second source makes a foot note of as a "Older form". Any idea how old, and if I use them will it be understood ?

I can't give you an answer to your question, but thank you for posting the link to the Cork Irish page. My old bookmarked links weren't working and I couldn't find it on Google either!

Míle buíochas.

Fuaireas is used in most of Munster, Fuaras is the West Muskerry form.

Yes, without a doubt. I use them all the time.

Most verbs just have the same form for both present tenses (in fact for most verbs only the habitual makes sense), except .

I assume you mean the independent present form gheibhim. It's used in Cork, but not in Kerry.

It's fuaireamair, by the way. :)

The spelling is sometimes slightly different, e.g., fuaras instead of the more usual spelling fuaireas, but I'd definitely go with this source if you want to learn how to pronounce the words like a fluent native speaker. Also, the dictionary on that site is second to none. It's the only dictionary I've seen that gives the correct Munster pronunciation for every word.

 It's the dictionary for Munster Irish. If you plan to read any Cork literature it is indespensible. Even
for Kerry, you need it and Dineen.

any idea how often that dictionary PDF is updated ? I know its a work in progress.

Also on the verb faigh - Simple past tense

I see the note The interrogative forms are an bhfuair?, (http://corkirish.wordpress.com/verb-con ... /gheibhim/)
Does that mean you should use
an bhfuair mé not an bhfuaras
an bhfuair tú vs. an bhfuarais
an bhfuaireamar vs bhfuaramair
an bhfuair sibh vs an bhfuarabhair
an bhfuair siad vs. an bhfuaradar
an bhfuarthas vs. an fuaradh

There is no specific frequency, I think. Whenever a significant amount of new words has been added.
The last two times it was updated it got over a hundred pages larger each time!

You should buy a copy of Leabhar Mór Bhriathra na Gaeilge. It gives you the complete conjugations of 112 verbs, including codlaím (like in the sound files), in all 3 dialects and "standard". It also shows you how the conjugate the other 3,000+ verbs that exist in the Irish language.

Here's a link for you:
http://www.litriocht.com/shop/product_i ... ts_id=5338

It's worth its weight in gold!
