Thanks for the confirmation An Cionnfhaolach, thats two that agree on it now.
I didnt realise about the font converter so thanks very much for letting me know.
I tried to do as you said but cant seem to get it to work for me :dhera:
when i click on font and choose like you said, then this appears, but im not sure where i should be writing my text? Do i need to delete the writing in the brackets? And does this put the dots above the letters for me as the ellipsix site does? Fantastic idea if i wasnt too daft to get it to work.I will get there at some point,so thanks for the help.I know there must be a knack to using this style of font,i just cant figure it out ha ha

Hi, weeman. I have special software called Cló Gaelach that lets me input the poncanna séimhithe directly from the keyboard.

The Mac version is avaliable here:

http://www.gaelchlo.com/macosx.html

The Windows version is available here:

http://www.gaelchlo.com/fuinneog.html

In the meantime, the following link should open up a window with a list of letters with síntí fada and poncanna séimhithe already on them. If you are in a hurry, just copy and paste from that. ;)

I was only saying that I didn't think the given translation was that dubious. Errigal's translations may yet be better alternatives. I see now that the do replacing the na in Errigal's i measc do Naomh accounts for the "thy" in "amongst thy Saints". Here are the three proposed translations for "count me among thy saints":

cuir in áireamh na Naomh mé
áirigh i measc do Naomh mé
déan mé a áireamh i measc do Naomh

Does anyone have any thoughts or preferences amongst these? or alternative translations?

(OT question: if we have chuid between do and Naoimh, i.e., do chuid Naomh "your saints" and then put it in the genitive after i measc, what happens? (besides a right mess)? Does it become i measc do chuid Naomh? or i measc do choda Naomh? or something else again?)

As far as I remember, nouns denoting quantity or part such as 'cuid, roinnt', etc. retain the "common" form even when "governed" in the genitive.

1. A Thiarna, ardaigh ar do láimh dheis mé agus cuir in áireamh na Naomh mé

2. A Thiarna, ardaigh ar do láimh dheis mé agus áirigh i measc do Naomh mé

3. A Thiarna, ardaigh ar do láimh dheis mé agus déan mé a áireamh i measc do Naomh

Firstly, "Láimh" in the Tuiseal Tabharthach (the dative) which is good for Munster and older Irish but I think archaic for everywhere else and the Caighdeán (or the irish standard). It would be "lámh" in the Caighdeán. I personally prefer it as "Láimh" though.

1. :good:

2. :good:

3. I have a problem with this one, "déan mé" doesn't make sense here for me. Its seems odd. I don't think "déan" is the correct verb to use. "Cuir" is the verb most commonly used with "áireamh"

Wait for more input on that.

Its like in German:

"Ich kann sport machen"

translated directly into English means:

"I can make sport" (I can play sport).

Irish has something similar: Irish has its own word for playing sport ("imirt") and it has a verb for children generally playing ("súgradh").

in the dative case, I think it's "láimh" in all dialects and in standard Irish.
In standard Irish there are 5 feminine words (+Éirinn) that have a specific dative case (slender ending):
lámh - láimh, bos - bois, bróg - bróig, cluas -cluais, cos - cois
