Hi, does anyone out there know how Caitlín is pronounced in Conamara? I've talked to a few people and gotten as many answers. I've been told Cath-LEEN, cotch-LEEN, catch-LEEN, cat-LEEN.

I can pretty much guarantee it's not "cath-LEEN" (that's how the name was Anglicized). It will either be "KATCH-leen" or "katch-LEEN," depending on whether folks in Conamara emphasize syllables with fadas or not (I can't remember). I think the slender "t" in Conamara is softened somewhat, though, to something like "ts." But definitely not a "th" sound.

Ulsterites would say "KATCH-leen"

Bríd is from Conamara...she can tell you for sure. Maybe she could even make you a sound file.
