I've been considering getting a tattoo of the word "mise," but I wanted to do some due diligence before going through with it. Partly wanted to make sure there isn't some unintentional association of the word by itself with something I wouldn't want on my body permanently- the main one I'm aware of is the poem "Mise Eire."
When I first began studying Irish, I was struck by all the qualities that make it distinct from other language systems, including how pronouns inflect for contrast/emphasis- so the impulse for the tattoo partly coming from a meta, linguistic-nerd place
That said, I also am into it based on the use of the word to identify oneself emphatically, in the sense of affirming being exactly who you are and not trying to be anyone else (rather than the sense of prioritizing oneself with disregard for others)... but I want to make sure that I'm using Irish respectfully and not appropriating the word to fit a tattoo idea not rooted in the actual use.
Long story short, I'm consulting the collective knowledge & wisdom of this community to see if anyone sees red flags in this tattoo idea based on anything I've described above. Very grateful for the time and insight anyone is willing to offer (and happy to be told that this isn't posted in the right place or has already been answered elsewhere).
Go raibh maith agat,
LeeAnn
