It is a very nice old Irish idiom. If it is not said, then it is only because people have forgotten how to use the old language.

How can any individual claim a particular phrase is 'not said' without having a complete knowledge of all idioms in all dialects? (unless the phrase is entirely contrary to the norms of the language). I am regularly enough surprised at the new phrases I hear in English despite the fact that I speak the language daily. I am occasionally taken aback by other people's pronounciation of English too (including the word 'pronounciation'!) and so I take with a pinch of salt the claims that certain words are not pronounced a certain way 'in any dialect'. That's not to say the person is wrong but one can be too self-assured.
