Here's the place in Letterkenny. We stopped here after an afternoon in Derry (we'd planned to find someplace to eat in Derry, but every place was either in the process of shutting down for the evening or had a really long wait list. We decided we WERE going to find something in Letterkenny, by hook or by crook, and stumbled across Yellow Pepper, which is just outstanding in every way:

Ive spent a good part of the last 33 years visiting relatives in West Ulster and that restaurant is the only nice place I have ever eaten.

I must have miss read your post, might consider going so
Only ever do those things though when we have visitors from abroad.

There was one directly across the street from it that looked good too (can't remember the name...I think it was some kind of pan-Asian place), but we ultimately decided that Yellow Pepper had the most interesting and varied menu.

I love how careful they are about sourcing. The menu specified exactly where they buy their meat, seafood, and vegetables. If this is an example of the culinary direction Irish restaurateurs are taking, I'm thrilled.

Its amazing how some areas of the country seem to have a developed food culture, while others still go for the boil the shite out of it and serve it in massif quantity's.

From living there West Cork and Cork City have a great food Culture.
North Cork Ive only eaten in a few places and never anything memorable one way or another.

Dingle has some nice places to eat and in general they all make a good effort, Tralí however the food is so dismal it puts me off going there.

But i must have eaten well over 1,000 meals in Donegal, Fermanagh, Tyrone and County Derry, both out in restaurants and functions and in peoples houses and generally they are geared solely towards (over)nourishment rather than taste, which seems a foreign concept.

My grandparents used to have a old stove which they boiled the food on. As a child I always thought the reason the food tasted so bad was because my grandfather and uncles dirty socks and clothes were hanging on a line about two inchs above the steaming dinner , infusing their earthy tastes.

Maybe that experience flavored my views somewhat.

An Chistín, at Oideas Gael, serves some really good food too (and you can't beat the view of the glen from the windows!)
