Halló

Seo nasc chuig bunachar sonraí úr fá dtaobh don Bhriotáinis dhúchasach : sleachta comhráití le cainteoirí dúchais, i gcanúintí éagsúla,le trascríbhinn agus le haistriúchán (i bhFraincis amháin fá láthair, gabhaigí mo leithscéal).
Tá seo giota beag taobh amuigh don toipic, ach i ndeireadh na dála, is teangaidh Cheilteach an Bhriotáinis fosta, agus thiocfadh aithris a dhéanamh air lena leithéid do bhunachar sonraí a dhéanamh fá choinne Ghaeilg na Gaeltachta !

Here is a link to a newly created database about native Breton : excerpts of conversations with native speakers, in several dialects, with a transcription and a translation (only in French now, sorry).
A bit off-topic, but after all, Breton is a Celtic language too, and it might be a good model to follow to create such database with Gaeltacht Irish !

It seems like a great resource. I haven't a clue what it all means, but I can follow the logic of how it works and the best of luck to them with it. It seems like the kind of project that someone could get a grant to do if they could get the man/woman/person power to do it in Ireland.

Actually, nobody gave us a red penny to make that database nor the recordings nor anything. And we didn't ask but we prefer to be poor and free  Doesn't prevent from doing good job :)

Now there's an idea for a tattoo! 8-)

All I am saying is that if a native speaker, or group of speakers, here decided to do an Irish language version, they well be able to get a grant from someone as added incentive (if added incentive were needed).

Not very difficult actually: take recordings of Gaeltacht speakers, cut them (the recordings :darklaugh: ) into excerpts, transcribe them and translate them.

Now you need an online database system, but I guess any computer scientist can do that; ours is a student in computer-treatment of linguistic stuff.
