My latest blog post for Bitesize is about Oideas Gael, where a few of us here have spent time, I'm sure:

Looking through your pictures on bitesize and facebook etc. Red, you seem to have been damn lucky with the weather. :)

Lord...the first week and a half I thought I'd taken a wrong turn and landed in Hawaii instead of Ireland! It was sunny and HOT! In fact, I even took my harp down to the beach at An Trá Bán in Gleann...if it hadn't been for all the sheep, and the people drinking Guinness in the pubs instead of pina coladas, I'd have thought I was in some kind of tropical hideaway.

I actually had to buy some clothes in Dublin because I'd only packed jeans and they were just too hot.

We did have a couple of good storms during the latter half of the stay (including one that had the lights out all over Gleann Fhinne...the pub owners broke out the candles and broke into the cash register so we could all keep drinking!), and some rain off and on after that, but nothing too bad.

It was kind of funny, though...on my last day in Dublin, I was eating breakfast at the hostel across from two American girls, and one of them asked me "Is it always so rainy here?" (we'd just had a good cloud burst). I told her the weather could be very variable, but yes...Ireland typically gets a lot of rain. She was quite distraught, and said "but it's summer!" She apparently hadn't researched her destination very well! I sent her next door to Carroll's to buy one of those cheapy rain ponchos.
