Hi. My father passed away and I'm trying to come up with a short epitaph for his gravestone. It can only be about 38 characters long. Due to this limitation all I have is:

"Suaimhneas Síoraí Air" which I think translates to “Eternal Rest be Upon Him”

Is this correct? Also, I'm open to other suggestions. Thanks

I suspect it would be incorrect to use the preposition 'ar', as you have; whereas I'm quite sure that that the preposition 'do' would be correct. Hopefully others can weigh in here.

Therefore you would have 'Suaimhneas síoraí dó' (Eternal peace to him). I've also definitely heard 'Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam' (Eternal peace to his soul).

That would be short for 'Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.' (May God give eternal peace to his soul.) See entry at https://www.teanglann.ie/en/eid/peace

I think I'm leaning toward 'Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam' so thanks for the suggestion
