Let's say a woman from a community miles away marries a man from An Cheathrú Rua. Well she will be know in An Cheathrú Rua as the man's wife as he is the local man. But she will still be better know from her father(or mother) and grandfather in her own original community. It is not a strict rule.
It sometimes happens that a husband is named after his wife, if she is the local woman and he marries into the community (although that would be rarer).

Don't worry about that. You can use your own family linage even after you are married.

Oh, you can mix the sexes?? Baba was the only name I wasn't familiar with so I assumed since the other two were male so was Baba. It's nice the rule isn't so strict like that so it can be applied in the way it makes the most sense for the community. Or the situation I guess? Because if we went to a family reunion with my husband's side of the family, they're only familiar with their family member names, so it would only make sense to use those even if we lived in a town with my side of the family and normally identified ourselves by my side of the family's names.

This kind of thing is what makes learning a language so intriguing. There are so many depths to it.

I once read up on Icelandic naming system (I'm not sure why) and it's interesting how they do it. Anyone here know any Icelandic?
