Dia Dhaoibh!!

I was wondering today, is saying

dá bhfaighinnse féin mo roghainn de mhná óga deasa 'n domhain

pretty much the same as:

dá bhfaighinnse féin mo roghainn na mhná óga deasa 'n domhain
?
Or is there a difference/error?

:GRMA:

The 2nd is wrong, because you can't use the article there, and anyway "na" doesn't lenite :-)

dá bhfaighinnse féin mo roghainn de mhná óga deasa 'n domhain
if I got my choice of (the) young nice women of the world

it's "mná óga deasa an domhain", that's why you can't have "na" before "mná".

In English, you can use the article (the) twice in the same phrase.

the women of the world
the nice young women of the world

But in Irish, you can only use the article (an/na) once per phrase.

na mná = the women
mná an domhain = (the) women of the world
mná óga deasa an domhain = (the) nice young women of the world

I'm finding myself referring lots of people to this site lately. But it really is a great grammar guide.

It's great when you find such a worthwhile site. Keep recommending! 8-)
