I saw this article at CNN, and it struck me that this phenomenon is very similar to the problems adult learners have with trying to use the language they're learning: i.e., they're afraid of making a mistake.

FWIW, if I'm in a restaurant and don't know how to pronounce the name of a dish, I'll just ask the waiter.
