My "specialty" is Connemara Irish, particularly Cois Fhairrge dialect, but I can also speak Ulster and Munster Irish with native-level pronunciation.

(Hint...you might want to ask more about it before you start guessing what it is. Usually, in 20 Questions, the best course is to ask questions that will help you picture the unknown thing -- things that might help you determine its size, where it's found, what it's made of/looks like, etc. -- otherwise, unless you get very lucky, you'll use up all your guesses very quickly).

For instance, right now you know that it's an animal, and that it doesn't have four feet, but you don't know much else about it. Some questions I might ask, in a similar situation, would include:

Is it a pet?

Is it a farm animal?

Does it have fur?

Does it have two legs?

Etc.

Also, for whoever is "it," it's OK in 20 questions to answer "it's hard to say" or "parts of it are" or "sometimes" or even "I don't know."

That's good to know, Red. That was why it was difficult for me to answer earlier.

When we were kids, "it" was only allowed to answer "yes" or "no", never "maybe", etc. It was a lesson in logical deduction and the askers had to learn to ask intelligent questions not guess.

But a lighter version is probably called for here, given the language levels.

Yeah...there are different versions of the game, I think (In the version I learned as a kid, if you guessed what the thing is and guessed wrongly, you were "out"). This seems to work best for language learners, though.

I actually developed a way to play this with my classes, using labeled photographs (so they wouldn't have to spend time looking words up in a dictionary)...it worked really well, and really brought home the difference between "tá" and "is."
