Hey
I'm sure this must have been posted before but I couldn't find it,
I'm really enjoying learning all the old proverbs but I was wondering if anyone knows what text they all come from or what book is the definitive version so to speak,
I don't want fancy illustrations just as many as possible in standard Irish.
Any ideas anyone??

Dia dhuit a chara,
I don't know if you are referring to a particular book, but Gabriel Rosenstock has compiled one in both Irish and English -

I take it you would also know of Daltaí na Gaeilge. They have a good supply of proverbs and commentary:

http://www.daltai.com/proverbs/

It is not a book and I don't know what their sources are but it is a great site for learning from proverbs.

GRMA guys
yeah was just wondering if any of them in particular was reckoned to be better than any others
The next time I'm in Dublin I'll try going back to the shop where I got the grammar book years ago, I seem to remember there being a few

agus GRMA arís Brendán, you're right, the daltaí site is VERY good, I had been there before but hadn't noticed the lessons underneath the proverb of the week, excellent source

agus GRMA freisin Franc, I'm going to get Seanfhocail as Acaill and Seanfhocail na Mumhan once I've exhausted the internet one's ,I like the description of both, The Achill one is edited by Seán Ó Héalaí of Raidió na Gaeltachta (my new fav station) and the other one was originally published in 1926 by Pádraig Ó Maoileoin who also added 400 of his own (not sure If I'd learn ALL of those)

still can't get over how great the internet is for learning a language
