Hello. Can anyone help me with the Irish word for "scabbard" or "sheath", as in reference to a sword? That would be quite helpful. I've used some online translators, but I'm not certain the word "truaill" which keeps coming up is quite correct for that context.

There's several that seem like they could work according to Teanglann (the main Irish > English dictionary):

scabaird

faghain - scabbard, sheath; shell, case -- used for honeycombs and as a euphemism for 'vagina'

inteach - scabbard, sheath -- literary usage

truaill - scabbard, sheath -- has an example for 'sheath your sword'; works for any type of casing as well.

So you're probably good with truaill if you don't want to use the direct English borrowing
