I want to translate:

What I have is ..

Dá luaithe is féidir linn cáin a ghearradh ar an bpobal is amhlaidh is fearr é

I'm not sure how to get the 'For It' and have used Is amhlaidh/Thus so

More context is needed. You usually tax someone on something, so what does 'for' mean here? 'Because of'? 'For the purpose of'? And what does 'it' refer to?
Meanwhile, the Irish version of the pattern "the sooner...the better..." is usually 'dá luaithe...is amhlaidh (or 'is ea') is fearr...', so since 'is amhlaidh' is already there as an integral part of yon construction I don't think you can also use it to translate 'for it'.

It's for a picture caption I'm working on. It's in the sense of 'It's raining today' whereby the reply will be 'The sooner we can tax the public for it the better'.

'tax the public' is the same English idiom as 'tax the poor' or 'tax the rich' (put a tax on the poor etc)
The 'for it' means 'to pay for it'.

Obviously, I'm trying to keep it short.

I came across this version in a similar context by a native speaker on 'dúchas.ie': Shíl siad cíos nó cáin a chur ar Mhuinntir Laidhigh i ngeall ar an talamh.

So: Dá luaithe is féidir linn cáin a ghearradh ar an bpobal I ngeall air is amhlaidh is fearr é.

Appreciate that. It's a wee bit clumpy in Irish.
Is it ok in your view if I use 'a chur' instead of 'a ghearradh' and 'is ea' instead of 'is amhlaidh' to get a slightly shorter version as below?

Dá luaithe is féidir linn cáin a chur ar an bpobal i ngeall air is ea is fearr é.

Ha! I suggested that very thing in my post but it must've got chopped out accidentally during editing . You could shorten it further by omitting 'is féidir linn': dá luaithe a chuirfimid/ghearrfaimid cáin...
