Hello, I'm new to the forum and looking for assistance in translating 2 words for a tattoo with my partner. I have the Scots Gaelic translations for the words but we're having a hard time finding a common Irish translation. We're traveling to Ireland in March 2020 and are hoping to get matching tattoos in our own native language so any help is much appreciated.
We've found"Fánaí" to be the most common suggestion for Wanderer but would love to find something that means "to wander", the act of doing so
Additionally we've found "Taistil" to be the common suggestion for Travel and are looking for confirmation on that if at all possible.

We appreciate any help and suggestions anyone may be able to provide us

bheith ag spaisteoireacht
bheith ag fámaireacht
bheith ag siúl thart

I would suggest saying "I/we are wandering." > Táim/Táimid ag spaisteoireacht/fámaireacht/siúl thart.

For "travel" do you want the verb or the noun?

taistil > to travel (v.)
taisteal > travel (n.)

All good, but there are some others you could also use, with each of the choices having its own nuances, depending on the context:

bheith ag fánaíocht [wander, possibly aimlessly, but used for hiking]
bheith ag spaisteoireacht [stroll around]
bheith ag fámaireacht [stroll/sightsee]
bheith ag siúl [walk, stroll, travel]
bheith ag siúl thart [wander around, possibly aimlessly]
dul ar seachrán [go astray]

Not sure what you were given for the Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) versions, but there can be issues of nuance there as well:

rach air siubhail or bi air siubhail [walk, travel]
rach air seachran or bi air seachran [wander, but also go astray]
rach air fhuadan or bi air fhuadan [wander, but also go astray]
rach air allaban or bi air allaban [wander, take to wandering, go into exile]

Neither language has a true "infinitive" form ("to wander"), so these structures actually mean "be at [wandering]":
Táim ag fánaíocht: I'm hiking
Is math liom [a] bheith ag fánaíocht: I like to go hiking.

or, in Gaelic:
Tha mi a' siubhail: I am walking
Is toigh leam a bhith a' siubhail: I like to go walking

If you could give us the exact sentence or phrase you want translated that would be better.

Don't try to put together random words yourself into a sentence. That doesn't work grammatically.
