Good afternoon everybody! I was wondering if there is a word in Irish that is used the same way as 'Lass', 'Love' or 'Honey'. Like a stranger could say it to you without it being weird or offensive.
Addressing someone as "A Stór" could be ambiguous. It could be meant as just a friendly form of address, but it can also mean "Dear" in the amorous sense. Something like "A Chailín" might be less ambiguous, and is also more literally "Lass".
In case you're not familiar with Irish grammar, the "A" is necessary when speaking to the person. It indicates the vocative case (the "I'm talking to you" case), and once existed in English as well, although all we have now are some remnants of it, like the "O" used when saying "O God".
