Except that I genuinely don't speak Irish. I keep meaning to learn properly, but other things get in the way. The latest thing is moving to the islands to study high school teaching through the medium of Scottish Gaelic, so I'm particularly averse to confusing myself with Irish at the moment.

Now I'm wondering if "sliocht" is a close match to ScG "sluagh", cos that can be used in the intended manner.

Sluagh is probably related to slua, meaning army or large group.

On a silly note, Kindred always makes me think of Vampire the Masquerade.

Likewise, sliocht is figuratively used very similarly to síol in the sense of progeny, descendant. sept.

As in: Sliocht sleachta ar shliocht bhur sleachta

Actually, revisiting the OP's original post, I think m'fhine may be a better option for my kin, as muintir is very much all encompassing. You don't have to be related to be considered as part of someone's muintir. That's just splitting hairs though!

Good point. You might even limit it further to close relatives with dearbhfhine.
