Dia dhaoibh go léir,

Hi, I'm Mike. A number of years ago my wife and I signed up for Irish classes in Chicago with Na Gaeil, and we've been learning ever since. As is pretty common, we found our way to the lanuage through traditional Irish music.

We're interested in connecting with everyone interested in learning and teaching Irish in Chicagoland and the Midwestern US.

Mise Mike. Chláraigh mise is mo bhean céile le rang Gaeilge de chuid Na Gaeil in Chicago roinnt blianta ó shin, agus tá muid ag foghlaim na Gaeilge ó shin i leith. Is é an ceol traidisiúnta na hÉireann a spreag muid chun súil a chaitheamh ar an teanga ar dtús.

Mike

Hello!

My name is James and being an author, I am joinging this site to ensure one of my characters in my Oz novel series is authentic to her background. She is the Head Attendant of Glinda to Good and also the leader of her Finest Forty. I know that in Oz, many names or puns and such, but, being a retired officer(warrant) myself, I wanted the charcter's name to be reflective of her rank and position. (call it professional respect from on officer to another) I have named her Gittan-Nora. Ironically, Glinda's Head attendant has never had a name given to her until now.

I like to be able to be accurate with all of the portrayals in the stories I write and after contacting bitesizeirish, they recommended this group. I don't know how many requests like this get posted here, but I figure that this would be the best.

Here is an example of some dialogue:
"As they walk, she notices that, and asks, “Why did you get on my left side?”

“Because, for me that means rank is on the right. A subordinate walks to the left of the senior or the superior.” he explains.

“Very interesting ways you have. I am Gittan-Nora, from the Qualding Country of Oz, and please pardon me as what you call English is not my first language. From where I come from, we speak Gaeilge as our mother tongue.”she says."

I can be reached here, or via http://centurion030.deviantart.com/ I can provide an email address as needed, too.

Most respectfully,

James

Hello, my name is Andrew. I am from the north of Ireland. In my secondary school, Irish was compulsory for the first three years but I didn't keep it on. The teaching wasn't great. The Irish teachers tended to be unstable so we didn't really learn much. I did an introductory course in Irish over the past few months and I have been practising on Duolingo. I am really interested in Irish phonology. I like the subtle slides that occur after consonants and I like the fact that Irish distinguishes between broad and slender consonants. I am fascinated by the slender r.

Hi everyone, I've browsed this forum for a little while & decided to finally join properly.
I grew up speaking Irish, but overtime have gotten a bit rusty, so am trying to reacquaint myself :)
Such a great environment to learn this beautiful language :good:

Welcome to ILF Allsaints77. Do you live in Ireland? Do you have any opportunities to speak Irish at all?

Hi Saoirse!
No  I live in England, which is beautiful too, but Ireland has a beauty all of its own  as I'm sure you'll agree.
I'm definitely going to try to get back there again very soon though, whenever I can,
it really is a beautiful place. The landscape is just unreal.

I'm mixed with Irish and grew up around native speakers so I have a little Irish in me, so to speak.
Mostly sayings/phrases/words that were used regularly around me, while growing up.
But I really want to learn it properly and fluently, so here I am :D
A character in my novel hails from there as well, so I want to ensure my grasp on the language is as good as it can be :reading: I just wanna soak up all the great info available here and learn from all the super intelligent folks here, seems like a great place to learn about the language :toast:
