Hello,
I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the Irish language course provided by Duolingo? As a beginner, I am constantly looking at resources to help my pronunciation and exposure to the language but i thought i would gather some more advanced speaker's thoughts on this particular course?

Go raibh maith agat

I'm not an advanced speaker but here are a few threads where people talk about it.

Duolingo grammar question: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3285

Duolingo's Irish course has launched (public beta): viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3241

Duolingo v Memrise - a complete beginner's perspective: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3266

I did all the lessons and found them engaging and a good way to learn some new vocab. Like any other course teaching Irish it has pros and cons and it's not the "be all end all" of learning Irish.

if you read through those links there were serious concerns with the pronunciation.

Until that perfect course comes along, I just use Anki flashcard system with audio from native speakers inserted in to each flashcard when I can get it.

I mostly look for Munster Audio, but if im stuck ill use connaght Audio if I can find it.

Never Ulster audio though :D

I've heard of enough mistakes with it (both in terms of grammar and pronunciation) that I'm advising my students to steer clear of it. It can be hard to relearn later things that you learned incorrectly when you were a beginner.

Yeah I still try to pronounce some words incorrectly as I learned them incorrectly in school . It always makes me stumble mid sentence tying to get it out right , or worse loosing my train of thought as im too preoccupied with the mistake im aware ive made.
