Howdy.
In all the CELT DIAS books and other such studies of the late 19th century and 20th century, one finds bi-labial fricatives for both broad and slender, and all over the map, yet one also reads of a sort of labio-dental, and today you here it on TG4, in all positions for Munster, at the beginning for Conamara and not at all in Mayo/Donegal. I also once read it was an older sound, once used at some point in the the past.

any ideas on this?

I think there was non labiodental in Irish, historically. I was taught at the university that Irish bh and mh are bilabial.
Now I guess many people make it labiodental under the influence of English.

Of course they do. I don't like them as they don't sound as nice as bi-labials. Slender f replaced by English f is too strong, i mo thuirim
