Hello! First of all I want to say how excited I am that I found this forum. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how I would get an accurate Gaelic translation since the language is so rare. I also realize that this is just going to be a starting point for my process since I will be tattooing this on my body forever more. The quote that I want has alot of meaning to me, its not something I made up and Im aware that other people have this same quote tattooed. However I have never seen it in Irish Gaelic. If its not possible to translate literally, as long as it has the same sentiment, I am ok with that. So here it is:

"Love as long as you live, laugh as much as you breathe."

Could you explain what you mean by "laugh as much as you breathe"? Because it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Do you mean "laugh as often as you breathe?" As in "laugh constantly"?

I doubt "other people have this same quote"---certainly not many people, anyway. In all these years of doing tattoo translations, I've never seen it, and the second half is really ambiguous.

Yes it means laugh as often as you breathe. If thats how it needs to worded to translate, then thats perfectly fine. I'm not sure where this quote came from but I have seen it tattooed a few times here in America.

Might get a bit long in Irish but perhaps:

Tabhair grá a fhad is atá tú beo, déan gáire a fhad is atá anáil ionat.
"Love as long as you live, laugh as much as you breathe."
(literally "give love as long as you are alive, make laughter as long as you have breath in you.")
