I'd use "caill" for both.
"Teip", and "feall" could also be used for missing the goal.
And I'd say there are a number of ways of saying you didn't get a telephone call as well.

While we're on the subject, how do you say "I missed you" as in missed someone's company?

I still miss my ex, but I'm getting closer with each shot.

Anything to do with phones must be recent inventions in the Gaedhealtacht, which is probably why I usually say something like

Ní raibh mé ann nuair a glaoidh tú.
