I don't think so. The 1948 final was in Killarney. 47 was in new york though....maybe it's not football at all....RTE should have some notion

Is that an 'AOH' on the bottom right? Would make it Kerry branch of the Ancient Order of Hibernians...

It's not so clear though. It seems as though there are other initials on the bottom left, 'JM' or something similar...

Domhnall

JM would be the maker's mark and the others are Hallmarks.
Maybe finding out who the maker was might provide another source of information.

Yeah, forget my previous message. Not an 'AOH' at all!

Here's a very similar item:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-Hurli ... 7675.l2557

Described as a hurling medal, also engraved by 'JM'. It's probably a club rather than county medal.

The OP states that it was made in Dublin by John Miller - JM

Another possibility which I found online is the Kerry chapter of the Irish Woodturner's Guild, which is called Craobh Chiarraí. Here's their web site:
http://www.kerrywoodturners.com/committee.html
The site mentions several annual events taking place in Tralee, but their logo is nothing like what's on that medallion.
