Here is a little puzzle an old Irish Teacher of mine asked us one day. How would you say....


Come out from under the table?.....this is for the beginners.

or maybe not!!!

To be perfectly honest, I'm afraid that if I give it a try, I might get it wrong and it would be kinda embarrassing.

But I've been watching this post, hoping that somebody will answer this so that I can learn the right way to say it.

Well I'd say -

Gabh amach ón mbord.

It's not a direct translation. And it could also mean "stand back from the table".

What are yer versions, WFM and Rossaí?

Nothing 'beginnerish' about that! This is where I would just say something like: 'Tar amach as sin' - no mention of a table or under or anything complicated like that! I have had to become quite the expert at avoiding what I can't say.....

Never be embarrassed about getting something wrong - it's a great way for people to learn - people often explain why something is wrong and so lots of people get to learn from it not just the person who wrote it.

My idea would have been

"(Tar) amach as faoin mbord" - Come out from underneath the table - or "(Tar) aníos ó faoin mbord" - Come up from under the table

I am not absolutely sure of the second one though.
