Chonaic mé an fhístéip seo http://www.wimp.com/babycutest/ agus ansin thosaigh mé ag smaoineamh ar an bhfocal 'cute'. Úsáidimse 'gleoite'; cad faoi dhaoine eile?

Nílim ag smaoineamh faoi 'cute' as in sly i mBéarla. Is rud deas é.

My Irish-born friends use "cute" as Bearla as you would use glic as Gaeilge

Yeah "gleoite" nó "dóitín".

I think there is a difference in meaning in calling a baby "cute" and the "clever" meaning.

I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

My point was that we Americans called babies, dresses, puppies cute but that when my Irish friends used it they meant someone who was sly, and it wasn't a compliment.

gleoite, or dóitín don't carry that 'secondary' meaning of 'cute' as in a bit of a 'slíomadóir'
and I would second the word gleoite to describe a baby as 'cute'.
