As for your name, well, technically names aren't translatable and you would only have an Irish equivalent if the name came from the Bible or was an anglicisation of an Irish name. In short, your name is "Dean" even in Irish. (You could still pick one that is similar to use as a nickname while learning Irish, though: http://www.irishidentity.com/names/d.htm (left-hand column, not the right-hand one)).

If you have a family connection to a particular part of Ireland or a favourite singer who sings in Irish, then it would be better to learn the dialect of that region than the artificial standard.

Hello - I am Byron. I live in Louisiana (US). I am new to the forum and still trying to figure out how to navigate around.

I have a little Irish heritage, but the Irish language interested most because of its cultural and linguistic uniqueness.

I have studied Irish alone only for a year and am still a beginner.

I write cartoon comics about my four shetland sheepdogs in different languages as my hobby, and am always in need of help from native / advanced learners.
