I was just wondering if res ipsa loquitur would translate into labharaíonn é an rud féin.

I'm just looking for a literal translation, not a legal one.

GRMA!

As I don't know Latin, and I'm getting different versions online what is the literal English translation?

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

res ipsa loquitur "The thing itself speaks"

Literally, it could be labhraíonn an rud féin.

It kind of means that something is "self-explanatory". Perhaps it could also be expressed as:

Tá a mhíniú sa rud féin "It's self-explanatory" literally "It's explanation is in the thing itself" or

Tá míniú an ruda ann féin. "It's self-explanatory" literally "The explanation of the thing is in itself"

Await further input ...

Maybe an "é" would be better.

labhraíonn an rud é féin.

Thanks for the answers, all. Still unsure of the placement of those pronouns. Some day it will sink in.

Labhraíonn an rud féin is right too.

btw we'd say "labhrann a' rud féin" in Ulster :)
