If it's a woman's name, I think you'd just lenite it. But I'm not certain.

Depends on the dialect. In Munster you would put the name in the genitive and lenite:
Tigh Ghobnatan = Gobnait's house

If there are adjectives, you drop the gentivie:
Tigh Ghobnait dhonn = Brown-haired Gobnait's house.

Be certain :)
You don't slenderize last consonants of feminine nouns in the genitive.
Only masculine singular nouns of the 1st declension do.

Thanks, so say I wanted to say Uí Chairméal would that be right? I'm writing a short story and want to say the descendent of Carmel which is Cairméal in Irish.

Uí Chairméal would be the genitive of Ó Cairméal...

Normally, ó means grandson, but I think it's not used anymore except in family names.

Descendant of Cairméal = duine do shliocht Chairméal.

Now it depends who is Cairméal, if it's a man it might become Chairméil in the genitive...

I was thinking of how some native feminine names change in the genitive...m.h., "Bríd" becomes "Bríde." Not sure what the rule is there.
