Oh stop, road signs in Irish are of an awful standard. I have noticed signs around Limerick are especially inaccurate, I was up there for a wedding recently where I counted 8 or 9 signs in Irish that were wrong. Mistakes varied from spelling typos to mistakes in the Tuiseal Ginideach. Had a big rant over it in the car, but no one really cared!

It's depressing isn't it? And for a Gaeltacht, too? Depressing (I don't it's considered a true Gaeltacht like some others, though).

One of my pet hates

, sometimes ya feel like going over and adding in a fada or correcting the mistake in red paint.

Is it bad translators, apathy, or a mix of the two?

A mix of both. Bad translators first of all, then there not enough people around to know if something is incorrect or not. When people complain they are ignored because it would cost to much money to get all the mistakes fixed that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Speaking of sineadh fada's and the like, here's another couple from today's lot.

Spot the difference, from the entrance to the hotel. Both signs only yards apart !

A. Óstánn Cheathru Rua.

B. Óstán na Ceathrún Rua

Nó ceann seo i Ros a' Mhíl.

Teirminéal farantoíreachta.

Unfortunately the state of Irish doesn't allow us the luxury of laughing about it !

The worst I've seen was in an office building. There was a sign at the entrance listing which rooms were to the left and which were to the right. The translation underneath said "Clé" and "Ceart."

At least that wasn't in the Gaeltacht.

Hopefully the office was on the moon where they had no Irish person to help/confirm/correct.
