I hate to be a pessimist, but in that case I would probably stick with Prince Dubai. Irish spelling and pronunciation are very foreign to English. Even if you get a chance to talk to the announcers beforehand, they're likely to mess it up.

No doubt they will mess it up. But as long as you know the right way yourself that's what's important.
In the UK and Ireland you often hear racehorses with Irish names pronounced extremely badly (I couldn't spell "atrousiosly" LOL).
But it's nice that they have Irish names all the same.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Glass is always half full with you, aint it Bríd? ;)

I was at a horse and dog show last week, and there were some crazy-sounding names being called out. And this was from Irish announcers who at least had a bit of school Irish behind them. I imagine it would be a lot worse in America, where many people wouldn't even recognise what language the name is in.

But Bríd is probably right, if you find a name you like, stick to it, and learn to live with the mispronunciations.

Mick you are probably right as I would be horridly disappointed if they messed it up but I do so love the sound of the Irish names I've heard so far...I am willing to chance it. (perhaps fill out the forms and include a phonetic pronunciation? LOL yes I am stubborn!

I feel the same way Bríd!
