Scríobh 'tá' agus cuir 'translate from English to Irish' ar siúl! Tá an focal 'tá' i bhfad níos mó ná a cheap mé! Any explanations?

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

I got a completely different translation when I did it again today. An-ait ar fad!

And then I typed in 'tá mé' and got this:
http://translate.google.ie/?hl=en&tab=w ... m%C3%A9%20

And then I typed in 'tá tú anseo' and got this:
http://translate.google.ie/?hl=en&tab=w ... BA%20anseo

Craiceálte!

I studied this kind of stuff in my first year of university. AFAIK, GT uses a method known as statistical translation.

Given the kind of Irish on the Internet, sparse as it is, and, unfortunately, poor as it can be, GT struggles to be consistent or accurate with it's translations, especially with the simplest of phrases. This is mostly anecdotal and I could be very much mistaken ;)

It gets weirder! Put FGB in and ask to translate it from Irish to English!

I have just been looking at a few translation sites http://www.all-translation.com/translation/irish/ and
http://imtranslator.net/translation/irish/translation/.

They seem "ok" for translating Irish to English for simple sentences, but are shite at translaing English to Irish.

for instance if you put in "hata an bhuachalla" you'll get the boy's hat. However if you type "the boy's hat" and translate you'll get "an buachaill hata"!
