I like Breandán's Tá sé i ndán dúinn ligean orainn. Braoin's Is dual dúinn... is good too, but I would read it as "It is natural for us" 'It is within us". I would think "fate" is being viewed as a separate, outside force.

Thoughts?

The way I was thinking of it was more like "it is our destiny to pretend." And my interpretation of the lyric is that we will go to our graves believing what we want to believe regardless of what the truth is. I'm trying my best to help here, so hopefully I'm not confusing anyone further with my "explanation" lol. :D

Or, more to the point, something like, " We are meant to be delusional."

As Gumbi said, Braoin's Is dual dúinn ligean orainn is something like "It is our nature to pretend" (including to delude oneself).

If you are particular about the destiny aspect, then dán may be closer:

Tá sé i ndán dúinn ligean orainn "It is fated for us to pretend"

Just waiting for a thirding ...

If 'we are fated to...' means 'we are destined to...' then 'Tá sé i ndán dúinn...' is indeed closer; and I will 'third' it.
I thought it meant 'we are naturally inclined to....' 'we are made up to...' 'it is in us to...'
My day has not been wasted - I have learnt something! :)
