Is that written right? I hear it a lot at the end of sentances, and take it to mean 'you know?', like you say at the end of an English sentance "I was going into the pub and ordered a drink, you know?" "bhí mé ag dul isteach sa teach tabhairne agus d'ordaigh mé deoch, an mbíodh a fhios agat?.

Ive never seen it written, only heard it so I could be wrong, but if anyone has a better translation of what it means and usage id be grateful,

cheers

Often, people even say "you know" (or "ghiú nó" :darklaugh: ), but with other people I also often heard "an bhfuil a fhios agad" in Ulster, shortened in "bhfui's'ad" (wee suhd) in this case.

Normally I'd expect an bhfuil a fhios a'd ? WILL-ee-SAD "Do you know?" or nach bhfuil a fhios a'd ? nukh-WILL-ee-SAD "Don't you know?".

In your case, a Shomhairle, perhaps it is an mbeadh a fhios agat ? uh-MYUKH-ee-SUG-ut "would you know?" or even nach mbeadh a fhios agat ? nukh-MYUKH-ee-SUG-ut "wouldn't you know?"

Bíodh a fhios agat could also be an order "know thee" "let it be known to you" (but it couldn't be turned into a question). Could bíodh a fhios agat be used in a sense of "for your information", I wonder?

I finally came across what I mean...

http://youtu.be/oz5qDdv0RZA

Mícheál says it at the end of the sentance but its not translated, I had my self convinced it was 'an bhfuil a fhios agat?' but after seeing this no way is he saying 'bhfuil'

Bíodh a fhíos ad (Bíodh 's ad)

Yes. That is used in the same way as you'd say in English "I'm telling you..."

But "Tá's 'ad" is heard too. Used like the English "you know" as a filler etc.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.
