Hi,
I was hoping to have a favorite passage of mine translated into Scottish Gaelic for a tattoo I am considering. The passage is as follows:

"Why, this is Hell, nor am I out of it." For those who are curious it is from Dr. Faustus, a 16th Century play by Christopher Marlowe. It has particular sentimental value to me.

It would probably be helpful if you could explain what the quote is trying to say. Surely you understand that it's not evident to one unfamiliar with the work.

The same person posted this in the Gaeilge part of the forum back then as well, and ended up ultimately with this suggestion, after discussion of the intent: Muise, seo é ifreann, níl mé amuigh as.

I'm not aware of a Gàidhlig equivalent of muise, but this Gàidhlig version of the phrase would seem to work:
Och, seo e ifrinn, 's chan eil mi a-muigh às
