Haigh, a Dhaoine!

I have learned that slender r’s are said as broad r’s before coronal consonants (t, d, n, l),
but I was wondering if anyone knows about what happens when the coronal is lenited?
For example, “oirthear” or “spéir dhorcha”

While it makes (anatomical) sense that the unlined coronals would limit the preceding r from being pronounced slenderly (or even as a true tapped broad), I’m not sure it would make anatomical sense for a lenited d or t (which are really no different from gh and sh, respectively) to cause the slender r to be pronounced broad. Does anyone have any insight on this? Thank you!

Hi Rosie, I believe in these cases the r remains slender as the sounds represented by the spelling are not coronal.

Since the spelling does not indicate coronal sounds, I think the r stays slim in these instances.
