For a long time I thought that Irish had no strict adjective order, unlike English, where adjectives have to be arranged in a certain way in order to be perceived as 'correct', as I could not find any mention of this in grammar book or websites. However, I started to doubt myself on this when I saw a video on YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLgfef61OgI , in which a Scottish Gaelic teacher describes a specific order that adjectives are to be arranged. Obviously I know that Irish and Gaelic are completely different languages, but I have to at least assume that there is likely some correlation, as they are very similar and diverged from the same mother-tongue. Does anyone have any further information on this? Of course, millions of thanks in advance

I wrote here (in German):
Quote:
If there are several descriptive adjectives, adjectives of size come first, followed by adjectives of quality, and finally adjectives of color and adjectives of origin.
e.g.: an cailín beag óg deas rua Éireannach = the small, young, nice red-haired Irish girl

Do you know where other types of adjectives would be placed in the cluster, i.e. adjectives of material, or would those just be treated as one of the other classes of adjectives?

I just realize now that that was probably a bad example, as many Irish adjectives of material are just genitive forms of the corresponding noun, e.g. adhmaid 'wooden', genitive of adhmad.
